Professor Angela Mattie offers insight on a new survey on health care costs

Health care costs for the 41 Connecticut employers who responded to Mercer’s 2012 National Survey of Employer-Sponsored Health Plans rose 3.3 percent in 2012, which is below the national average.

Angela Mattie, associate professor of management and chair of health care management and organizational leadership in the School of Business, is available to comment.

“Even though recent data indicates that these Connecticut employers’ health care costs rose less the national average, this is not great news,” said Mattie. “Health care costs in general continue to rise. This data indicates that more health care costs are being shifted to the employee. We need to strive for better value in our health care system, which includes lower costs and better quality, before we can raise the flag or hang the report card on the refrigerator door.”
