Angela Mattie, associate professor of management and chair of health care management and organizational leadership in the School of Business, was quoted in a Connecticut Health Central article about hospital mergers in Connecticut.
When for-profits take over a community hospital, “people fear that they will bring corporate business practices to healthcare,” she told the independent online health publication, adding, “that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The dialog should be about creating value and creating the best quality care at the lowest cost.”
“We have to start focusing on how we improve the quality of healthcare,” Mattie said. “It’s not as important who is running the hospital but how they are running the hospital.”
