Professor Paul Friedman quoted nationally about Matt Lauer

18th Annual Fred Friendly Award Luncheon 2011Paul Friedman, professional-in-residence in the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University, was quoted nationally in an Associated Press story about NBC’s vow now to replace NBC’s Matt Lauer on the ‘Today’ show.

Friedman, a former news executive at ABC and CBS, said Lauer is the best he has seen in his role. However, Friedman told the Associated Press that Lauer has a problem: The anchors on ABC’s “Good Morning America” appear to be enjoying what they’re doing.

“I don’t think the fuss in the press is what matters to viewers,” Friedman is quoted as saying. “What matters is what is seen on the air, and right now what’s on the air is a cast that doesn’t appear to enjoy themselves and what they’re doing – as they do at `Good Morning America.'”
