Professor Lauren Sardi scheduled to discuss Boston bombing suspect’s teen girl following on radio stations across America

Ross,LaurenLauren Sardi, assistant professor of sociology at Quinnipiac University, is scheduled to explain why Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has a teenage girl following on radio stations across America.

Sardi, who said Tsarnaev ” ‘appears’ normal, approachable and even charismatic,” will offer insight on:

  • WTIC-AM, of Hartford, with host Ray Dunaway at 6:20 a.m. on Friday, July 19.
  • WDRC-AM, of Hartford, Torrington, Waterbury and Meriden with host Brad Davis at 7:20 a.m. on Friday, July 19.
  • WDEL-AM, of Wilmington, Del., with host Allan Loudell at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, July 19.
  • WCCO-AM, of Minneapolis, with host Steve “Moose” Miller at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.

“It makes sense that Tsarnaev has a teenage girl following because he ‘appears’ normal, approachable and even charismatic,” Sardi said. “I think the larger picture to take away from this is not necessarily who teenage girls are choosing to focus on, but rather the fact that terrorists do not necessarily fit the stereotyped profile that we as a culture have tried to place them into. What’s even more interesting about the ‘Rolling Stone’ cover is the description of Tsarnaev as essentially being a ‘normal’ student who was sort of forced into doing what he did. So he’s not really considered an active criminal in this case. We can juxtapose this with the discourse surrounding the Trayvon Martin case, in which George Zimmerman was found to be not guilty because Martin ‘directly caused’ his own death.”

To speak to Sardi, please call John Morgan, associate vice president for public relations at Quinnipiac, at 203-206-4449 (cell) or 203-582-5359 (office.)
