Hollywood writer and civil rights activist to discuss his career, future of marriage equality Oct. 14

Black_CAASpeakers_photoAcademy Award-winning Hollywood screen writer and civil rights activist Dustin Lance Black will discuss his career and the future of marriage equality at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, in Burt Kahn Court in the Athletics and Recreation Center on Quinnipiac University’s Mount Carmel Campus.

Black, whose writing credits include “J. Edgar,” “Milk” and “Virginia,” is a founding member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights.

A graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles School of Film and Television, Black has dedicated his life to fighting for equality on the federal level regardless of one’s sexual preference. To that end, he is on the board of the Trevor Project, a national youth suicide hotline for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgendered and those questioning their sexual or gender orientation. He also helped to organize the LGBT March on Washington in 2009, where he spoke to an audience of more than 150,000 people in front of the U.S. Capitol.

Black, who has written three books and is a regular contributor to The Daily Beast and The Huffington Post, was named among OUT magazine’s 40 under 40 and has repeatedly been named one of the 50 most powerful LGBT people in America.

The event, which is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Office of Community Service and Student Programming Board, is free and open to the public.
